Strathcona Hotel Victoria

Appearance was great, very clean. Beds were comfy, but not the softest. Pillows were my fav part of the stay. I love my pillows, and the more pillows the merrier. Would recommend it, especially for downtown.

If you really want to stay right in the heart of the city, this is the place. The hotel has the greatest selection of bars/restaurants in the whole city – right in the ground floor. But everything else is right nearby. Stay here and you are walking distance of everything. Front desk staff are friendly and very efficient.

Obviously, at $70 a night, you shouldn’t expect the lap of luxury.
But that being said, the Strathcona is a very good hotel for the price.

Some Pros and Cons that may or may not be important to you in your decision making:

Pros:
-hotel is very charming, and the rooms are basic but clean
-staff very helpful and friendly
-good continental breakfast (bagels, waffles, toast, cereal, muffins, tea, coffee, fruit, yogurt)
-excellent location

Cons:
-bed unsupportive and uncomfortable (could be more of an issue if you are a larger person)
-no desk in the room
-can hear people in the hall, and to a lesser extent, in their rooms.
one my first night, there were so many people coming back to their rooms late at night that I had to wear earplugs. On the second night, this wasn’t an issue

Sandman Hotel Victoria

We hosted a meeting at the Sandman Hotel in Victoria and were very impressed with the staff and their ability to accommodate us and last minute changes.

The facility had wifi available, the projector and screen were ready and waiting for us, water service was well situated and the layout was done to our specifications.

The staff were great!! The room was fairly clean. The bathtub didn’t drain while you showered. The bath towels are super tiny and we are not that tall. This hotel is in a location where you really shouldn’t go out for a walk. We drove one block to get snacks and realized that was not a smart decision. The neighborhood was super sketchy. But like I said the staff are awesome

We arrived at this hotel July 21, 2016. Nice looking from the outside, but that’s where it ended. Room was a terrible left over from the 80’s and falling apart. We went out for the evening and returned at 12:30am to a room that was about 84 degrees. AC had stopped working. Went to the front desk clerk who could do nothing. The hotel was full and room couldn’t be swapped out. Asked for a spare AC unit and I would swap it myself. Didn’t have one and told me they break down all the time. There was a very large window (4′ x4′ approx.) in the room that opened all the way to help alleviate the heat. Parents with small children, be aware for the safety of your children. Inquisitive children could easily fall out. I’ve never seen a window in a hotel on a upper floor open more than about 3 inches, there secured with a blocking device. Serious safety issue! Finally climbed into bed at about 1:30am and slept till about 5:30am when a garbage truck drove down the lane way beside the hotel and woke the whole family up. Tried to get back to sleep, good luck.
Spoke to the day desk clerk in the morning who referred us to there General Manager, Richmond who wasn`t there. This was a one night stay for us, so we conversed with him by phone at a later time. Richmond would do nothing more than a 10% discount. That`s a $17.50 reduction for a room that was suppose to have AC that impacted our next day due to lack of sleep. This was a 7 day vacation for us. A 10% reduction shows you how little they care about you and your family. The cost of this room was $175 plus tax. I expected a better room and certainly better service for that kind of money

A quick overnight stop over. For a low priced hotel the room was adequate, bathroom was clean. Lacking some niceties I would have expected, even at a bargain price, glasses would have been better than paper cups, coffee supplies were sparse and there was no kettle to boil water to make tea. I would stay there again because it is cheap and convenient, but not for more than 1 or 2 nights.

Management does try, but both times we stayed we had problems. We stayed here because it was cheap. It was for training I had to do and it accepts pets (we have 2 dogs). The rooms look decent, nice up-to-date linens, furnishings, etc. but the walls have stains/marks on them (age)? There were no glasses only 2 paper cups and the ice bucket was missing in the second room. There were 3 lotions instead of shampoo, conditioner and lotion and the gal at the front desk said the “Asian” housekeepers can’t read English and the containers all look the same. It was too cold in the room the first weekend we stayed and too hot in the room the next weekend (diff. rooms). The thermostat in the second room was behind the TV so it was not accessible and they don’t seem to work anyway. The A/C was on when we arrived (this is January). The hair dryer didn’t work and the toilet wouldn’t flush. They tried to fix it; a guy came in with a plumber/s snake and after working on it for a while said it was fixed finally but, no, it wasn’t. My husband finally asked them to move us to another room. The story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears came to mind as, finally, the third room was “just right”. Everything worked and was there and the temperature stayed constant. The walls also seem thin as you can hear people talking in the other rooms and especially in the hallway. We have to stay a third weekend in Feb. so we asked for the same room but they told us they couldn’t guarantee it because someone else may book it the day before and stay longer. (Why they can’t just hold that one on the day we arrive, especially booked 2 weeks in advance, is beyond me). Anyway, I guess the moral of the story is that you do get what you pay for. The rooms are under $100/night which is what I needed, but for that you should NOT expect a 5 star hotel.

Quality Inn Downtown Victoria

While not a fancy hotel the Quality Inn is a good reasonably priced hotel. Clean and quiet and in a very convenient place for downtown Victoria. No need for a car as most of the downtown attractions are within easy walking distance. They are doing renovations on some of the rooms which is a good thing, nothing bad just due for an upgrade.

The room was a good size with everything one would need ,
The staff friendly and helpful , food excellent both in taste and value
Location awesome right in the middle of downtown walk everywhere
Can’t saw enough about it so I’ll stop.
Go find out for yourself. Won’t be disappointed.

I would say that the best part about this hotel was its location-right in the middle of downtown. Other than that, I would probably never stay there again. Our room was pretty gross, as it seemed like it had never been cleaned. During your stay, nobody will clean your room. They will give you some new water glasses, but that’s about it! I would not recommend staying here during breaks (Spring break, summer vacation, etc) because it will be extremely LOUD. The walls are paper thin and we could hear our neighbors until 3 am-it would be 100 times worse when there are a ton of college kids partying it up in the bar attached to the hotel. This place is fine as long as you don’t spend too much time in the hotel!

We stayed two nights at this centrally located older hotel. The front desk staff are very efficient and friendly. The daily continental breakfast which is included in the price of the room, is a great way to start your day. They serve waffles, muffins, toast, cereal, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruits, juice and tea/coffee. We stayed on the 5th floor, our room was a bit worn. It was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The TV is a nice size, and we enjoyed the complimentary herbal teas.

Stayed here our two nights in Victoria. Easy to get to. Good value for the price. Ample parking. Pub on site. Laundry on site. Large clean room. 5 minutes from downtown. What you expect from a chain…

Pros:
– extremely well priced
– fantastic sandman service
– the usual fantastic shark below below
– functional gym in the basement to get the sweat going
– super comfy bed
– fully stocked vending machines on every level
– coin washers and dryers in the basement

Cons:
– no bar fridge or microwaves in the queen rooms

Nice central location with a restaurant/pub on site. The shark club was good pub type food. The inly thing I think is a little crazy I’d the hotel fitness center isn’t open until 8am. I’ve never stayed in a hotel that doesn’t have 24 hour or at least 5-6am gym times. I was here on business and 8am is not a good time to start a daily workout for working folks!!

This is not a luxury one, but nice to stay. It is little off from downtown Victoria. You need a car or taxi to get to downtown. Outside looks old and building is shared with Liquor store, but inside is fairly clean.

I have stayed at this location several times and it has always been clean and consistent. We go over every april for an annual soccer tournament and its our first choice. It is a little outside of downtown so you require a car or to use public transit in order to get there.

Only one outlet free to plug anything into, 2 out of the 4 lights not working, one bed broken completely (sit on one side, the other side flips up into the air), streaks of who knows what (I think I can probably guess) running down the walls behind the bed, toilet seat broken (keeps slipping off the bowl), moldy shower, no glass glasses (had to drink wine out of a paper cup). I wonder if it’s possible to give a 0 out of 5 stars on google. The upgraded room and the restaurant voucher (which I had to demand receipt of) just don’t make up for the disastrous establishment they call a hotel.

This is a good clean budget hotels with decent beds with a good rates. There is a decent restaurant on site for those who do not want to leave the hotel. When you are looking for the hotel when coming from downtown you have to look closely for the entrance?

So here I am in town on a contract staying at this place.
1st night there’s drunks banging around smoking pot and talking SUPER LOUD.
I call the desk and get a oh. Ah. Gee ok I’ll see what I can do. – They did nothing.

2nd night the same. Tge 4th night my room filled with Pot smoke snd finally they fined them but they still got to stay!

Now my contracts 2 months. The cleaning people stack towels on ypur laundry. They don’t vacum the room or take out the garbage.

The rooms gave sliding patio doors so as soon as it’s 3 AM one of the drunk pot smoking guests decides to get high or smoke in the room .. sooo they use that sliding door and it rumbles your room like a thunder storm. This happens nightly – IT’S INSANE!

Located approximately three kilometres from downtown Victoria . Guests  can enjoy the seasonal heated outdoor pool, meeting facilities, business centre and fitness centre, as well as a beer and wine store , and complimentary large vehicle parking. Guest room amenities include refrigerator and microwave. Suites with full kitchen and sofa bed and rooms with balconies are also available.

The weather hasn’t cooperated this visit so, glad we have such a comfortable room with a kitchenette. Hotel staff very accommodating. Unfortunately, we don’t have use of the steam room as it is being renovated. Website could have mentioned that. All in all, this is a good place to spend 15 nights. One small point: the chairs in the kitchenette are very noisy to moves the tile floor unless you pick them up. I will suggest they attach some ‘sliders’ on the chair legs.

The rooms have a decent amount of space. My two year old and i enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub in our room since their is no hot tub in the pool room. The water was a bit to chilly for her. The staff is very friendly and attentive. My daughter accidentally broke a glass and within minutes the front desk clerk attendant to the shards. We would defiantly stay again. Amazing restaurants are walking distance. And they offer pet friendly rooms

Second stay at the Inn. Good central location for a reasonable city centre price. Lots of amenities – free Wi-Fi, fridge, large TV, microwave, writing desk, lots of toy plug-in outlets, iron and board, coffee maker, free daily paper in the lobby, comfortable firm beds, good linens, clock radio, friendly staff, 25% food discount in the restaurant, recently renovated decent size room. We had an inner courtyard facing room and it was quiet.
