Arrived by 70X Downtown Express bus from Swartz Bay ferry terminal, alighting at the stop on Hillside off Blanshard, just before the bus turns left onto Douglas Street. Even with luggage it was fairly easy to cross the busy road junction towards the hotel which you can see from there.
As my old “Rider’s Guide” Victoria bus timetable was dated 2006/7, this shows me that my last visit here was seven years ago, much too long for this return trip to a favourite hotel which I first visited in 2002. The welcome was just as good as before, and this time I had a front-facing room over the main entrance. It was my new partner’s first visit here, so I was not wanting to let her down.
I have stayed in Sandman hotels for all my main holidays since 2002, and am an old timer enrolled for free in Sandman’s “over 55” scheme. I was very grateful to be upgraded to a larger than standard room, complete with a sitting area (with a sofa bed) and kitchen facilities.
If anything needed improving, it was only the grey carpet which looked dirty in patches but was most probably clean (we dampened a patch to test it). It’s better to have a lighter carpet which honestly shows whether it is clean or not. The wash-basin in the bathroom ought to be renewed, sadly an unwelcome cost, because though still quite serviceable, there was a superficial crack or deep scratch which looked as if it has been there for quite some time, not recent. On the other hand, the good-size bath with shower is excellent. Very clean throughout. I liked the small desk by the bay window. I like the large firm comfy beds provided by Sandman, and here we were not disappointed.
The welcome on arrival was excellent, once the necessary formalities had been completed very efficiently, and we were given a very good tip about visiting the waterfront with its boardwalk at Sooke, which proved to be one of our best trips of this holiday.
Our other essential excursion was a visit to The Butchart Gardens, which was easily achieved by going on the bus from a stop on the far side of Douglas Street, down a bit from Hillside. In fact you can return to Swartz Bay from this Stop within sight of the hotel. We bought our “Day Pass” bus tickets at the Bus Depot Office on Gorge Road only five minutes walk from the hotel.
The hotel’s swimming pool is an absolute gem, so we spent much time there.
Our visit of five nights at this Sandman was much too short but doubtless we shall return for a fifth time. The two faults mentioned above are of no consequence in the awarding of a well-deserved top rating. You cannot get this value for the same money in my own country.

Thanks to all at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel for the lovely stay. We had a beautiful waterfront view in a junior suite. We took advantage of our stay to eat at both Kate’s and the Snug. Both were very good. The staff, as always was warm and welcoming….felt like coming back home.

Review of BEST WESTERN PLUS Inner Harbour, Victoria
We were attracted to the Best Western Plus on Quebec St. by their special suite offer for up-islanders, which included parking and breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was excellent with everything we needed for our stay. Parking was more secure than other hotels by virtue of the gated access. The hotel was within walking distance of all amenities.

This is a very nice hotel and the amenities were fabulous. The room was well kept, the bathroom clean and well stocked, and the kids and husband LOVED the pool and fitness centre. The proximity and view to the harbour and other attractions is hard to beat. The only caveat I have is that the little coffee shop below was way overpriced for breakfast (go to Starbucks across the street instead) and I thought that the front staff in the lobby and at the door would be a bit friendlier for a four star hotel (compared to other places I’ve stayed they seemed rather ambivalent to the comings and goings of guests). In any case, it’s hard to beat this location and you’re guaranteed a pleasant place to sleep at night. The environmentally sustainable practices were a bonus as well, since I tend to take note of such things when I travel. Also, we happened to be there during part of the dragon boat festival. In between our day activities, we were able to take lunch back to the hotel, eat on our balcony and watch the boats race

Review of Coast Victoria Harbourside Hotel & Marina, Victoria
I had the pleasure of staying at The Coast while in Victoria. I was very impressed with the location on the Inner Harbour, the friendly reception, the comfort, the quietness & the ambience of my room. As always at Coast hotels, my bed was delightfully comfortable! I really love the large bottles of bathroom products that they have for the guests instead of the wasteful tiny samples. Being mindful of our environment is important. Parking was easily accessible.
The hotel has an amazing pool that is both inside & outside! The pool area is bright & airy with a hot tub & a sauna.
The restaurant, The Blue Crab Seafood House, has wonderful views of the Inner Harbour. I loved taking in the view while dining on a tasty breakfast of Eggs Benedict with crab cakes. It was a great way to start my day.
Next time I visit, I will bring a pair of walking shoes so that I can explore the miles of oceanfront paths & my bathing suit so that I can experience the pool!

We escaped to Victoria for a short getaway and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Marco Polo. Altogether a perfect stay in Victoria.

Yah sure it is an old circa 1950’s/60’s Slumber Lodge Motel but it has been tarted up in funky colours, cleaned up with new fixtures, fresh paint, cool ideas like bikes you can borrow, two funky VW shuttle buses. Awesome Promo events planned like the Feb 14th short term afternoon bookings available from 11:00-15:00… so cool. We enjoyed our one night stay last weekend Jan 2015. The room and site were clean and fresh, beds comfortable and the shower was nice and hot. We did not go into the pool or hot tub or water slide, nor did we use the ping pong room. Had we stayed longer we most certainly would have. Staff were very nice and knowledgeable about the Hotel. We will be back especially if the rates stay nicely reasonable.
Hotel Zed Victoria
3110 Douglas Street, Victoria, BC
We’re a ridiculously fun & eclectic hip hotel in Victoria BC. Hotel ZED was created with an idea of a funky hotel that was actually affordable, right here in our hometown of Victoria, a place that was super cool, kickass, edgy, but totally down-to-earth and not pretentious. Fun, Playful and Approachable.
