I travelled off season, so I was able to get an excellent deal on a room, which enabled me to stay in Victoria for 5 lovely days. I took the first scheduled ferry of the day, which meant I was much too early for check-in. The man at the desk let me park the car in the lot and I was able to walk down Government Street and see the sights. The location is so convenient – situated in a quiet residential area, but close enough to shops and sights. The hotel restaurant is quite good. Breakfasts are delicious and a great value, and there are some very good dinner specials. My room was quite small, but perfect for traveling solo. The bed was really only big enough for one! The building is over 100 years old and charming. Yes, there are stairs to climb! I really didn’t mind them. I loved the radiator in the room, which kept me toasty on the chilly Autumn nights. There was free wifi in the rooms and free coffee and tea in the lobby. I will stay here again!
The inn is an interesting historic building, with an antique-y feel. Slanted floors (I did not mind them – they add character imo!) and old- fashioned coil heaters, the radiant heat was perfect for this time of year.
I see lots of complaints among reviewers regarding the stairs. I actually LIKE those stairs as I view them as good exercise! Not all ‘older’ people require an elevator.
Convenient restaurant with excellent food. I was surprised at how good the food was as the restaurant is kind of hidden downstairs so we didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t try the pub as it sounded noisy but fortunately quieted down at an early-ish hour and we weren’t bothered by noise at all during the night.
The small double (petit) rooms are great value and we don’t mind the small size, but all of them should have a queen sized bed and a full bathroom with tub as well as shower. We were fortunate to be able to switch to a different room after the first night of our stay to get a room with a tub. But we had to move all our stuff, of course, and we did not have the info. up front through the booking site, or the website for the inn which we also checked, that the room we had booked did not have a tub. A glitch for sure, but the staff were very accommodating and put a concerted effort into switching us to one of the petit rooms that has a tub. It was a long wknd., so the place was busy and full but we really enjoyed the small room with the tub and would stay there again.
