The historic Union Club building in the heart of historic Victoria is a unique find. This was our first experience with a reciprocal club, and it was a very good experience.
We walked to most sites that we wanted to see (Legislature, Chinatown, etc.) and the seaplane tour and whale watching tour were also a short walk from the building. The staff recommended that we take a larger whale watching boat, and I completely agree as the smaller zodiacs get you to the whales faster but lack stability for good whale photos and do not have restrooms. The concierge graciously arranged most of our tours to include a private vehicle to Butchart Gardens. I definitely recommend the private vehicle option as the driver provided a commentary about Victoria and departed when you wanted to depart versus waiting on other people.
The entire staff was very attentive and the food served at breakfast and dinner was outstanding: try the Eggs Benedict for breakfast–the smoked salmon, egg, and avocado was delicious. The bar and dining environments were quiet and relaxing–very “civilized.”
We will definitely make a return visit.
