This is a lovely Victorian home with a lot of ambience. It has the old charm and the stained glass, leaded windows and woodwork are definitely a must see. It is strategically located, being a ten minute walk from the harbour, Parliament Buildings and the Royal B.C. Museum as well as close to downtown,
Unfortunately it also has a bit of Victorian mold. Although very clean, our room smelled musty and we had to keep the window open to let fresh air in (the “Victoriana Room”). The bath towels were small and thin, and there was no bathrobe as advertised. The bath was a cast footed tub encircled by a shower curtain and a small shower head. Anyway not the “luxurious” amenities you would expect for the $225+ per night.
As for the breakfasts they were small portions and a limited selection. Douglas, the host, although very polite, had only a couple of choices for breakfast that you had to preselect, and were odd choices. One was a balsamic pasta. I’m sure it was tasty, but not exactly what I would choose for a starter meal. As well, you had to ask for butter etc. if you needed more.
Douglas is also not an experienced host. He will only answer direct questions and doesn’t carry on conversations. He is helpful though, if questioned. Also he is somewhat reclusive.
We felt that we had been “cheaped” out totally and overpaid as we expected better service for the price. Unless you’re into great Victorian era ambience, I wouldn’t recommend this as a first choice.
