I would say that the best part about this hotel was its location-right in the middle of downtown. Other than that, I would probably never stay there again. Our room was pretty gross, as it seemed like it had never been cleaned. During your stay, nobody will clean your room. They will give you some new water glasses, but that’s about it! I would not recommend staying here during breaks (Spring break, summer vacation, etc) because it will be extremely LOUD. The walls are paper thin and we could hear our neighbors until 3 am-it would be 100 times worse when there are a ton of college kids partying it up in the bar attached to the hotel. This place is fine as long as you don’t spend too much time in the hotel!

We stayed two nights at this centrally located older hotel. The front desk staff are very efficient and friendly. The daily continental breakfast which is included in the price of the room, is a great way to start your day. They serve waffles, muffins, toast, cereal, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruits, juice and tea/coffee. We stayed on the 5th floor, our room was a bit worn. It was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The TV is a nice size, and we enjoyed the complimentary herbal teas.

If you’re going to stay at the Strathcona, you’ve got to understand that its big allure is the location and price. It’s barely a few minutes walk from the ferry, various shuttle pick ups, and we could see the Royal BC museum from our room. It was a great place while we were out and about being touristy during the day, and to be perfectly honest, extremely handy for when we were enjoying the night life and drinking that night.

The room was quite small, but the space was used very well and I didn’t feel like anything lacked for it. A queen bed room was just about perfect for two people. You absolutely will not fit more than one person in the bathroom if you need it to get ready though, unless you plan on standing either on the toilet or in the tub. There were multiple mirrors throughout the room, which was convenient (and probably helped it to feel less cramped), especially because a shower will make the bathroom mirror unusable.

Our room was directly over the bars and street side, so if you find the sounds of hooting drunks, heavy bass, and passing cars soothing, you’ll sleep like a babe. Also very easy to hear people opening and closing doors and walking around in the hallway outside.

But there’s also quite a nice liquor store downstairs, which really helped to drown out the background noise.

If you get a room here, you’ve got to embrace what the hotel is good at, and you’ll be fine.

My only real complaint was that the windows in the room were very, very dirty. If you’ve got a room with such huge windows and a view, keep ’em clean!

Stayed here for 3 nights. In a great location right in centre of town walking distance to everything and close to the bus from the ferry from Vancouver. Room was well priced excellent size. The onsite pub and restaurant were good and would be happy to stay here again.

The people from the hotel were very helpfull and really nice, they gave good advise. The breakfast was great and had a lot of choice. The rooms were nice, especially the bath. Good wifi. Not expensive. We even came back for diner in their pub with Christmas while all the restaurants in town were closed and their food was good as well

Stayed Oct 29th, 2016. Liked the location downtown to take advantage of the Halloween parties. The bathroom was tiny but the worse part was smashing my ankle on the metal bedframe that stuck out past the single bed. When I told the front desk they said thanks for letting me know but no apologies or sign of any concern for my injury which still hurts 5 days later. Would have been worth the taxi ride to go to Paul’s Motor Inn which had a large dressing area which was great for getting ready for a night on the town, and two queens beds for the same price.
It was nice to be able to walk back from the clubs but not worth five days of pain!!

I had been staying with friends further up the island, we stayed at hotel before I left for UK .lovely old hotel . helpful staff and comfortable room. Handy to sightsee. Museum really a must see 10.minute walk.

This is definitely a 3* hotel – but a pretty decent one. The location is great – a short walk to the inner harbour, lots of shops and restaurants close by and a nice restaurant and bar attached. The front desk staff were very welcoming and the hotel is clean.
The ‘not so great’ is actually the room. It is clean but very small and the bathroom is very dated and in need of updating. The tile grout is quite dark (perhaps mouldy but no smell) and the lighting is very poor. But all in all, I would recommend this hotel – we didn’t spend much time in the room anyway.

We found the Strathcona to be a good place to stay on a budget. The rooms were clean. Being right downtown Victoria is handy. Be aware the the nightclubs in the hotel empty out around 1-2 AM and it’s very noisy on the Douglas street side. Try and book a room towards the back. More expensive but if you value your sleep, worth it

The hotel’s location is great, within close walking distance of main attractions and plenty of restaurants and bars. Breakfast was included and basic continental style. There are bars etc linked to the hotel; Big Bad John’s hillbilly bar is an experience to try! Aside from that, the room was clean but pretty small and the decor somewhat tired. Staff weren’t overly friendly or especially helpful but it was clear we arrived on a bad day as the lift was out of order and housekeeping was understaffed. Would have been nice to have been offered help to carry our heavy bags up, particularly as we saw other guests have their bags carried up! No complaints as such on our stay but not a place I’d particularly recommend.

We stayed for two nights. Hotel was within walking distance of many of the attractions (inner harbor, fishermen’s warf, Chinatown, BC museums, parks, etc.), and lots eating places. Several bars plus roof top volleyball area in the same building. All the staff was friendly and helpful. Room was small but was clean and comfortable. No A/C but a table fan was provided which kept the room comfortable to sleep in the evenings. A very nice continental breakfast (good variety to choose from) was included with the room cost. Easy to catch many city buses from hotel. Can be a bit noisy if you are a light sleeper with the bars in the building till about 1 am. We stayed up late most nights/mornings so not a problem for us. I would stay again at this hotel.

the hotel is very conveniently located at walking distance from everything. it has a pub downstairs which is always crowded and lively. The rooms however are very small and hot, there is no air conditioning, just a small fun. Our room was on the 4th floor but looking at the street, there is no acoustic isolation and it gets very noisy at night.

Just of the habour front (5 minute walk) so very good location for the price , stayed here in 2014 and 2016 and no complaints apart from the lack of AC , but with it being a old hotel its to be expected , stayed on the top floor this time , room was very good 2 king size beds , bathroom one of those prefab ones with the bath and the shower unit all into one alongside the wall, great pub downstairs The Sticky Wicket which serves very good food , and a massive selection of beers wines and whiskeys , sports bar but without all the noise , recommend you have a meal her as its decent value .

Staff plesent and knowledgeable and give good recomendations of things to do .

Would definltley stop again

So first the pros: Location is good, bed was reasonably comfortable, breakfast included.
Now, the cons: OLD hotel, which translates to tiny rooms, paper thin walls, slamming doors, musty smells. No A/C…just an oscillating fan. Wifi is Shaw open, which is useless for us. Multiple bars and clubs which meant an all-night party in the hallways on our floor. Continental breakfast was included, but not an ounce of protein anywhere – just a huge carb-fest. There are other hotels in the area….definitely check them out first!!!

Great hotel. Very centrally located and easy to get to. The rooms were charming and we’ll maintained. The hotel features several pubs attached to it, which was a nice bonus. Food was awesome and staff was great. I would stay there again no problem.

We were a bit concerned about our reservation but were pleasantly surprised when we looked at our room, which they allowed us to do before booking in. The room was great – it had been fully renovated and lacked nothing. This is a historic building so it has it’s quirks but it’s a great location, the staff was very accommodating, and our stay was pleasant.

I stayed in a double room with three girlfriends for a weekend trip. The room was very large and had a couch and seating area which was quite nice. The staff at the hotel were excellent, friendly and accommodating. While it is in a busy area, we noticed no major noise until early in the morning (~7am) with garbage and other trucks cruising through the alley. If you like to sleep in, consider a room not facing that alley! Highly recommend this hotel for group trips. The continental breakfast was a bit dismal – skip it and hit Victoria’s great brunch spots!
