Westin Bear Mountain Victoria

Stayed for one night with a room with a balcony over looking the golf course and ice rink , lovely view. Room and bed were very comfortable. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast in the morning in the restaurant . It is a bit remote but that is it’s charm with golf , swimming and soon tennis for a great vacation. There is also a shop and liquor store for your convenience.

We rented a suite and dined in the restaurant and bar. Our rooms were cold – 63 degrees when we got there. We used the thermostat to increase to 68 but after 5 hours it was 65. We called the front desk and they offered blankets. Like I want to walk around in a blanket. Housekeeping brought a space heater and showed me that we needed to put the thermostat way up to 86 to get it warmed to 68-70. Also, there was a place set up for free coffee, but nothing was ever there. No teas or coffee, ever, even though there was advertising. They claimed free parking but do not have enough spaces. We had to park over a block away, carting suitcases. Food was mediocre at best and was screwed up both times I ordered.

stayed two nights here while in town on business. was upgraded to a golf course view suite – very nice. Surroundings were great with all newish buildings and the golf courses and natural settings right there. However, if you’re looking for outside restaurants or even an interesting coffee shop, not too much around. Had to go outside to get to the gym, as it is in a separate building. A bit of a drive from anywhere else. On the plus side, off season rate provided very good value.

Villa Marco Polo Bed and Breakfast Inn

Location was great, quiet, green leafy street, walkable to sites and restaurants. Property was beautiful, decor was attractive and interesting, and ‘Penthouse suite’ was fabulous! Hosts were very welcoming and helpful and knowledgeable about the area, attractions, restaurants, and events. Breakfast was incredible, it’s the first time I had ‘courses’ for breakfast. 🙂 They even had complimentary drinks and wine in the library for guests!

They accommodated our food requirements cheerfully and beautifully. I suggest letting them know at least 1 day ahead of arrival if you need gluten-free or vegetarian or low carb so they can plan for your visit. Tranquil street. Gorgeous neighbourhood for walking. Tastefully furnished, character home. Friendly hosts. Perfect.

This hotel is located on a relatively quiet street close to downtown. I found it comfortable and clean. Shout out to guest services and housekeeping. Two things would have earned five bubbles on this review. My room had what appeared to be an older style heating unit complete with night “rattle”….and the towel rack placed in the tub surround was awkward. Otherwise a great stay. Thank you,

Very well located hotel in downtown Victoria – walking distance to everything. Good quality hotel with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, particularly the bell staff and front desk folks. Well appointed rooms with everything you need. Very comfortable beds. Will put this place on my list for the next stay in Victoria.
Wife and I were here for 3 nights during an extended weekend around Vday.

It’s unfortunate that we did not arrive to Victoria by sea. We had to take a taxi from the airport. Public transport to the hotel from the airport is not convenient, the price for 2 people on the shuttle is almost as much as a taxi.

The check in process was wonderful, the guy at the desk was super friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful, comfortable and quiet. The Bathroom amenities were great, I wish Marriott participate in programs such as “Make a Green Choice” for bonus points like SPG.

The hotel was centrally located. From the hotel we were able to walk to anywhere we needed around town. The bus to Butchart Gardens is also right around the corner of the hotel on Douglas. Bulk Barn, one of the reason why we came to BC is also a few blocks away on Yates. Lots of fantastic restaurant options around the hotel, such as Aura. Tea at the Empress is across the street and Royal BC museum is right next to that.

Overall it was a wonderful stay, we can’t wait to go back.

Swans Hotel Victoria

We had a wonderful lunch of Reuben sandwiches and beer. Thank you Eugenie for the attentive service. We stop at the Swans when we are in Victoria as the food quality and service is consistent, so it was a return visit.
Swans was recommended to me by several co-workers. Swans is in a great location. An easy walk to my meetings, downtown attractions, the waterfront and parliament buildings. As I was staying for three nights, I loved that the room is like a one bedroom condo with a separate bedroom and a full kitchen. I would recommend that you request a room that is not above the pub. The food and beer (they brew their own) at the pub is great and there is live music on the weekends. I have already pre-booked to stay here for my next business trips
Location is great – right downtown, near restaurants, bars, touristy things. The room was very nice and it was quiet – third floor suite, with a small kitchen. Check in and out was quick and easy. They have an arrangement at a parking lot nearby for $11, or you can try to park on the street (I paid for parking). I would stay here again!

Strathcona Hotel Victoria

Appearance was great, very clean. Beds were comfy, but not the softest. Pillows were my fav part of the stay. I love my pillows, and the more pillows the merrier. Would recommend it, especially for downtown.

If you really want to stay right in the heart of the city, this is the place. The hotel has the greatest selection of bars/restaurants in the whole city – right in the ground floor. But everything else is right nearby. Stay here and you are walking distance of everything. Front desk staff are friendly and very efficient.

Obviously, at $70 a night, you shouldn’t expect the lap of luxury.
But that being said, the Strathcona is a very good hotel for the price.

Some Pros and Cons that may or may not be important to you in your decision making:

-hotel is very charming, and the rooms are basic but clean
-staff very helpful and friendly
-good continental breakfast (bagels, waffles, toast, cereal, muffins, tea, coffee, fruit, yogurt)
-excellent location

-bed unsupportive and uncomfortable (could be more of an issue if you are a larger person)
-no desk in the room
-can hear people in the hall, and to a lesser extent, in their rooms.
one my first night, there were so many people coming back to their rooms late at night that I had to wear earplugs. On the second night, this wasn’t an issue

Sandman Hotel Victoria

We hosted a meeting at the Sandman Hotel in Victoria and were very impressed with the staff and their ability to accommodate us and last minute changes.

The facility had wifi available, the projector and screen were ready and waiting for us, water service was well situated and the layout was done to our specifications.

The staff were great!! The room was fairly clean. The bathtub didn’t drain while you showered. The bath towels are super tiny and we are not that tall. This hotel is in a location where you really shouldn’t go out for a walk. We drove one block to get snacks and realized that was not a smart decision. The neighborhood was super sketchy. But like I said the staff are awesome

Royal Scot Hotel Victoria

Quiet comfortable rooms, clean, professional, and the location was excellent. We walked to dinner each evening, walked down to the waterfront for New Year’s Eve fireworks, short walk to shops. We had a one bedroom suite that was exactly as advertised. The front desk was very friendly and competent. My go to place in Victoria now.

This is an awesome hotel. The staff are very very helpful and nice. They have a shuttle van that will drive you to get your groceries, go downtown go just about anywhere you want. They do have a mile radius to follow. This hotel is very close to the water. Walking distance to the Empress. The legislature grounds are almost next door. My friend and I went in Sept. My husband and I are going to Victoria for a wedding in June and have already booked our rooms. You should get a room with the kitchen it will save big time $$ in restaurant food. Beautiful place. My friend and I are going back in Sept again. You must stay at the Royal Scot.

We stayed in this facility on our Cosmos Coach Tour of The Rockies, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The facility had lift access, a good restaurant, and the service was good. There was a strong hint of Scottish Culture.

Red Lion Inn Victoria

We arrived at this hotel July 21, 2016. Nice looking from the outside, but that’s where it ended. Room was a terrible left over from the 80’s and falling apart. We went out for the evening and returned at 12:30am to a room that was about 84 degrees. AC had stopped working. Went to the front desk clerk who could do nothing. The hotel was full and room couldn’t be swapped out. Asked for a spare AC unit and I would swap it myself. Didn’t have one and told me they break down all the time. There was a very large window (4′ x4′ approx.) in the room that opened all the way to help alleviate the heat. Parents with small children, be aware for the safety of your children. Inquisitive children could easily fall out. I’ve never seen a window in a hotel on a upper floor open more than about 3 inches, there secured with a blocking device. Serious safety issue! Finally climbed into bed at about 1:30am and slept till about 5:30am when a garbage truck drove down the lane way beside the hotel and woke the whole family up. Tried to get back to sleep, good luck.
Spoke to the day desk clerk in the morning who referred us to there General Manager, Richmond who wasn`t there. This was a one night stay for us, so we conversed with him by phone at a later time. Richmond would do nothing more than a 10% discount. That`s a $17.50 reduction for a room that was suppose to have AC that impacted our next day due to lack of sleep. This was a 7 day vacation for us. A 10% reduction shows you how little they care about you and your family. The cost of this room was $175 plus tax. I expected a better room and certainly better service for that kind of money

A quick overnight stop over. For a low priced hotel the room was adequate, bathroom was clean. Lacking some niceties I would have expected, even at a bargain price, glasses would have been better than paper cups, coffee supplies were sparse and there was no kettle to boil water to make tea. I would stay there again because it is cheap and convenient, but not for more than 1 or 2 nights.

Regent Hotel Victoria

Lovely hotel, great location, friendly staff. Walking distance to great shopping and fun pubs. Room was ready when we arrived earlier than expected and we were allowed access immediately. Breakfast cafe has a great view of the water.

Our second stay at this hotel. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite with views from every window, it was spectacular. We enjoyed every minute of our stay, this has become an annual event for us. Love that parking and breakfast is included. The location is perfect. We enjoy exploring downtown Victoria on foot, so much to see and do

The location was perfect and the bed was very comfortable. I would book here again! The room was comfortable and it was very quiet and peaceful. There was a good selection of restaurants in the vicinity too.

The rooms are wonderfully furnished and every comfort is provided. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who comes to Victoria. The downtown location is perfect, the hotel is first class, and the waterside rooms offer a lovely views of harbor activities such as passing seaplanes, people in kayaks, as well as large and small boats. Lovely sunsets. Absolutely a great place. Spotlessly clean.

Management does try, but both times we stayed we had problems. We stayed here because it was cheap. It was for training I had to do and it accepts pets (we have 2 dogs). The rooms look decent, nice up-to-date linens, furnishings, etc. but the walls have stains/marks on them (age)? There were no glasses only 2 paper cups and the ice bucket was missing in the second room. There were 3 lotions instead of shampoo, conditioner and lotion and the gal at the front desk said the “Asian” housekeepers can’t read English and the containers all look the same. It was too cold in the room the first weekend we stayed and too hot in the room the next weekend (diff. rooms). The thermostat in the second room was behind the TV so it was not accessible and they don’t seem to work anyway. The A/C was on when we arrived (this is January). The hair dryer didn’t work and the toilet wouldn’t flush. They tried to fix it; a guy came in with a plumber/s snake and after working on it for a while said it was fixed finally but, no, it wasn’t. My husband finally asked them to move us to another room. The story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears came to mind as, finally, the third room was “just right”. Everything worked and was there and the temperature stayed constant. The walls also seem thin as you can hear people talking in the other rooms and especially in the hallway. We have to stay a third weekend in Feb. so we asked for the same room but they told us they couldn’t guarantee it because someone else may book it the day before and stay longer. (Why they can’t just hold that one on the day we arrive, especially booked 2 weeks in advance, is beyond me). Anyway, I guess the moral of the story is that you do get what you pay for. The rooms are under $100/night which is what I needed, but for that you should NOT expect a 5 star hotel.
